Dakota Littlejohn was the starting pitcher in the morning facing St Mary’s tough team out of the first region.
St. Mary’s roughed up the younger Littlejohn in the first inning but Littlejohn held tough and finished out the inning and continued to pitch a solid game for the next two innings.
Littlejohn would give way on the mound to Whitney Cain who pitched one inning before suffering a knee injury in the bottom half of the inning. That would bring the day to a screeching halt and put many things into prospective for the coming season.
With Whitney down near the plate, the coaches and parents hurried to her aid while waiting on an ambulance. Many of the players took a knee in the dugout and said a prayer for Whitney.
Once the Ambulance arrived the EMT’s took great care in prepping Whitney to head to Murray Calloway County Hospital. Once the ambulance took her to the hospital Coach Scott Hill gathered the team in the dugout and the team said another group prayer for Whitney then prepared to load the bus and head for the hospital.
Coach Hill made the decision then not to play the second game of the day and the team made Whitney their priority from that point. When the team reached the hospital waiting area all they knew was she was in x-ray and the doctors were looking after Whitney. The team, along with the parents that traveled to Murray, sat in the ER waiting area patiently hoping for good news.
