This football season will not be like any other Trigg County has had in a while. Community support has never been an issue when it comes to the football team, but the effort everyone in Cadiz has put into making it the best season in a long time is truly amazing.

Molly Oliver, who is a substitute at Trigg County High School, is also the treasurer of the GridIron Club which was created on May 29th to raise money for the Trigg County High School football team.

“Coach (Shannon) Burcham came to me one day and said that we needed to start up a booster,” said Oliver, “So Donald Bush and I opened an account and made one. We started with $36.07”.

On August 10 the account was resting nicely at $2,352.75. There has been two car washes and several donations with many more events to come. The club meets every Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at the Extension Office and anyone is welcome to attend.

Different things have already been bought and many more are needed. The team will have a smoke machine to run through whenever they run from the tunnel at the start of every home game. The club also raised money for the players to attend several different camps over the summer. However, the team still would like to have Nike vests to wear on game days. There are 79 players to buy vests for which will cost $3,000.

The team works hard on Fridays and it can get messy on the field. That is why the team is in need a dryer. The uniforms must be washed after every game and the dryer that is currently in the field house is broken. If you have a dryer you would like to donate then please contact the high school. The club is also collecting aluminum cans if anyone wants to donate some.

This Thursday, August 16, there will be a “Meet the Wildcats” dinner at the high school cafeteria from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. It will be an Italian style dinner with spaghetti and the works for $5, and there will be an auction for everyone to participate in. They will be auctioning of footballs signed by all of the Trigg County team. Tickets and other items may be auctioned as well.
