However, as there was no quorum, no action was taken, so the board was limited to discussing the Ham Festival and other related topics, and since attendance was limited, Cadiz Renaissance Chair, and Ham Committee member, Leida Underhill, decided to have the meeting in her office.
All of the members present said that people predominantly enjoyed the entertainment, especially the sword swallower and the pig racing.
“It seems like people were happy, it seems like the local vendors did pretty well, considering it was just Saturday and a little bit on Sunday,” said Lucy Oliver, Trigg County treasurer and Ham Festival Committee member.
Underhill said the committee broke even. The financial report was read, and the report states that the committee’s balance as of March 23 was $89,020, and after $45,135 worth of income and $44,971 of expenses, the committee’s balance as of today is $89,185.
Of that, $8,400 was made from the carnival, $21,800 was made from the booths, $10,000 was made from sponsors and $4,600 was made from promotions, including the Ham Festival t-shirts. Underhill said most of those shirts have already been sold.
Oliver discussed the county’s time capsule, which will be buried at the official dedication of the Trigg County Justice Center this morning. She said she will bring a Ham Festival poster with her to place in the time capsule, which she said is similar in size to a filing cabinet.
It was also suggested that there should be contest involving pumpkins at next year’s Ham Festival, either contests based on the pumpkins themselves or the or pumpkin carvings.
Ham Festival Committee Member Janeen Tramble, who is also with the 4-H Extension Office, said they could save money on entertainment by scheduling a football game through Trigg County Schools, a game she called the “Pigskin Classic.”
Underhill said that she would like any recipe submissions for the cookbook to be submitted by the next Ham Festival Committee meeting, although the official deadline is Monday, Feb. 1, 2010.
The next Ham Festival Committee meeting will be held on Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at 5:30 p.m. at Cadiz City Hall.
