The Trigg County Ham Festival Committee, at its meeting last Monday, talked about new brochures that are ready for distribution. The brochures, it has been decided, will be distributed to tourism and welcome centers in Kentucky and the surrounding areas.

Cadiz-Trigg County Tourist Commission Director Bill Stevens said that he will be attending a national tourism conference this month and will be taking some of the brochures with him to for distribution at other tourism and welcome centers in the area.

Also discussed at the meeting were the type of items that will be sold this year. Committee members thought that due to current economic conditions, they should limit any souvenir-type items that will be sold to less expensive items.

The committee voted to sell a key chain/mini flashlight featuring a pink pig with eyes that light up, an ink pen with a pig head that flashes and a pink tote bag/cooler that has the official pig logo, as well as the annual festival T-shirt, Renaissance on Main Director Cindy Sholar said.

It was also said at the meeting that the Trigg County Humane Society has volunteered to sponsor a kennel that will be available for animals that are brought to the Ham Festival this fall. As with previous festivals, there will be signs posted, and festival attendees will be asked not to bring their pets.

If festival attendees do decide to bring pets, however, the kennels will be available, and will be providing shade, water, and a safe location for the animals until festival goers are ready to leave.

The committee hasn’t yet made a decision on the final T-shirt design, however.

The next Ham Committee meeting will be on Monday, June 22, at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.
