“We met at the Women’s Show last year,” said organizer Peggy Graham. “(Helping Hands) asked if she could help, and boy did she help!”
Wooden not only provided the cakes tasted at the event, but contributed other foods and served the cakes. “Everything was donated, and (Wooden) served and went above and beyond for us,” said Graham.
Graham did not have the final totals for the fundraiser, but guessed that the event added $700 to the coffers of Helping Hands. “We had 11 tables with seven chairs at each. It was full at one time but people came and went.”
Her husband Phil Graham said that the community supported the cake sale beyond participating in the event. “Part of the problem is that some people came and paid at the door to get in. We had sales of tickets in the past weeks, and people donated without wanting a ticket. We had a lot of donations where people said that they were diabetic or busy that day, but donated anyhow.”
