The Helping Hands Food Bank tries to ensure that no resident of Trigg County has to miss a meal, but keeping a full pantry is no easy or inexpensive task. This Friday and Saturday, Helping Hands will call on the community to shop at its rummage sale at the Cadiz Baptist Church Annex.

The sale, running from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Friday, and 8 a.m. through 1 p.m. on Saturday features “something for everyone,” according to Volunteer Peggy Graham.

“You never know what you’re going to get. One time you might see a lot of furniture, and the next time, a lot of clothes,” said Graham.

“I tell people not to think of it as junk but something someone else can use,” Graham said. “Sometimes you might break a jar and save the lid. Someone else might have the same jar with no lid. We see that with flowerpots too. There’s no such thing as junk.”

Graham said that bargains including unopened bedspreads, sheets, towels and dishes are available for a smart shopper. “We have books- you would not believe how many books we have. Women might redo their bedrooms or not like the color of a Christmas present. We even had someone bring in a commode and someone took it home.”
