“This has nothing to do with ideology or parties. I did this to help the people I represent. It’s not about me or about parties,” Henley told The Cadiz Record.
Explaining how his switch will allow him to use his influence to accomplish his objective of gaining additional funds in the state budget for Calloway and Trigg Counties, Henley said, “In the legislature, the majority party controls committee assignments in the house. With this switch, I am now a part of that party. Senator Ken Winters (R ) is in the majority party in the Senate, and we can operate more effectively than having only one official in the majority party.”
He added, “At the state level, the minority party has extreme difficulty getting bills out of committee and brought onto the floor for a vote. I’ve been told that after I switched, the Democratic Leadership wants me to chair a taskforce on high tech economic development. I never could have been chair as a member of the minority party.”
