Funeral services for Herman Martin, 86, of Princeton, were conducted on Thursday, August 31, 2006, at 1 p.m., at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton.

Rev. Tom Hughes officiated at the services. Burial followed in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Martin died on Monday, August 28, 2006, at 11:50 p.m., at Caldwell County Hospital following a long illness.

Mr. Martin was born on December 20, 1919, in Christian County. He was the son of the late Charles Frank and Mamie Ethel Duncan Martin.

Mr. Martin was a retired Sawmill Sawyer, and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Strickland Martin in 1995; a son, Jimmy Martin in 2001; two step daughters, Dorothy Ramey and Gladys Hunt; a brother, Freddie “Curley” Martin; and a sister, Dorothy Hart.

Survivors include two sons, Gwindal Martin of Trigg County and Larry Martin of Caldwell County; a daughter, Retta Phelps of Princeton; three stepsons, Keith Terrell of Anamosa, Iowa, Pete Terrell of Lyon County, and Sammy Terrell of Dawson Springs; five step-daughters, Nellie Merrick and Shirley Coleman, both of Princeton, Candy Key of Clarksville, Tenn., and Sherry Terrell and Lois Kingston, both of Lyon County; granddaughter and caregiver, Donna Peters of Lyon County; and several step-grand and great-grandchildren.
