The Trigg County Ham Festival Committee met Monday evening and decided unanimously to allow horses in the parade this year on a one-year trial basis.

The decision was made after many Trigg County residents signed a petition requesting that horses be allowed in the parade.

Stipulations were placed on the decision however. In order for someone to be allowed to enter the parade with a horse, they must register in person at the Ham Festival booth on Friday or Saturday prior to Sunday’s parade.

Also, Trigg County law enforcement agencies wil be on hand to supervise and carry out rules designed by the committee, which are still in the draft stages.

The allotment of horses in the annual parade fell under criticism last year when they were not permitted to be in the parade. People allegedly spoke out in harsh words to volunteers of the Ham Festival committee, which caused some to not return, according to Teresa Russell, a former volunteer and chair of the committee.
