Hospital confident with decision

re aware of a past disciplinary complaint involving one of its physicians, and say they are satisfied with the resolution of the matter. Officials say they are confident in the physician and that he made them aware of the disciplinary matter prior to joining their staff.

The complaint involved Dr. Clifford Poppens alleging two incidents of a sexual nature prior to accepting a position at Trigg County Hospital. Dr. Poppens appeared before the board of Medical Review on the incidents and was placed on probation at the time.

According to records of the medical review board, the first incident took place in 2002 and the second in 2006. The board later terminated Dr. Poppens probationary period in both instances.

“Rest assured that the hospital and medical staff have in place an effective credentialing process which utilizes rigorous criteria in checking background information on each physician or provider and is re-reviewed with existing physicians on a periodic and ongoing basis, “said Alisa Coleman hospital administrator.

She, as well as board chairman Dr. Michael Gross, noted that Trigg County was “very fortunate to have the ability to recruit medical staff to Trigg County with the knowledge and experience of Dr. Poppens as well as the other new members.”
