The prices at Trigg County Hospital increased by 10 percent, and some costs have been cut, the Trigg County Hospital Board unanimously decided that night, at a special called meeting held at the hospital conference room.

Trigg County Hospital Administrator Alisa Coleman announced the recommendation, and other recommendations, to the board, after which the recommendations were discussed for over an hour before being voted on.

Coleman said QHR spent two days two weeks ago evaluating the hospital’s income and expenditures and made recommendations, including a 10 percent price increase for services provided by the hospital, to the hospital board.

The recommendations were approved by the hospital board, and will be put into place as soon as possible, Coleman said, adding that the steps that were recommended will help the hospital continue operating feasibly.

Hospital Board Chairman Michael Gross compared the hospital’s current financial situation to the one it was in five years, and added that one of the big differences between now and then was that while the county’s unemployment rate then was between 3 and 4 percent, it is now almost 17 percent.

Coleman attributed the currently tight financial situation of the hospital to the slow local and area economy, the increasing cost of operating the hospital and the slow national economy.

Coleman also said that the hospital spoke with Congressman Ed Whitfield last Monday about possible grants and funding that could be available and other assistance that the hospital can apply for.

Gross said the hospital has received word from the Trigg County Fiscal Court that if the hospital approaches truly dire financial straits, the fiscal court will lend it upwards of $200,000.

Trigg County Treasurer Lucy Oliver said those funds would come in the form of an advance on taxes owed to the hospital later this year.
