Hospital hires physician with roots in Trigg County

Trigg County Native Dr. Shea Godwin plans to return home to start her medical practice in July 2008, according to Trigg County Hospital CEO Lisa Coleman.

Prior to embarking on her path to higher education, Godwin graduated from Trigg County High School. She attended Murray State University for her premedical studies, and moved on to the University of Kentucky for medical school. Currently. Godwin serves as a resident at the Trover Clinic in Madisonville.

A press release from the hospital’s Public Affairs Officer Audra Hodges said, “She will be able to provide a unique level of care to the citizens of Trigg County simply by having a firsthand knowledge of our community and its healthcare needs.”

Godwin has a Doctor of Medicine with distinction, a Master of Science in Biology summa cum laude and a Bachelors of Arts in Biology. The press release said that she has garnered several honors and awards and her scholarly writings have seen publication in medical journals.

According to the press release, Godwin and her husband, Thomas Harper have one child. Harper will teach at Trigg County Schools.

Coleman said that the hospital continues efforts to recruit physicians. “We have some prospects now, and are looking for the hospitalist’s position.”
