This week marks the first chance for Trigg Countians to attend a series of workshops outlining the process of a theatrical production.

The workshops will culminate in a performance of “Seussical the Musical” in the first two weekends of June in the Trigg County High School Little Theatre, which will feature Trigg County adults and children alike.

The first workshop, on theatre production, will be held Feb. 15 at 3:30 p.m. The same workshop will be repeated on Feb. 16 at 6:30 p.m. All workshops are held at the Little Theatre and will last about an hour.

The workshops, made possible by a grant from the Kentucky Arts Council sought by members of the Janice Mason Art Museum and the Trigg County School System, are free to the public. They do, however, require pre-registration, which can be done by calling Melissa Higgins at 270-522-2220, extension 2042.

“No experience in any of this is necessary,” Fourshee said, nor is there any sort of age requirements for acting in the musical or helping in its production. “Students don’t always have an opportunity to work elbow-to-elbow with adults.”

Attendance of the five workshops (production, costume & make-up, set design & construction, acting and music) is not a requirement to either perform in or contribute to June’s performance.

Auditions for “Seussical the Musical,” which Trigg on Stage committee member Paul Fourshee said allows for a flexible cast size, will be held on March 23 and 25. Though Trigg on Stage is not yet providing scripts for acting hopefuls to begin committing lines to memory, Fourshee said such scripts can be found on-line.

The three-year School Community Arts Parents Partnership grant will pay out $10,000 over three years to host these workshops and a full-scale production each year.

The idea, said Fourshee, is to establish a self-perpetuating theatre community by the grant’s expiration.

“This is a partnership with the community,” he said. For instance, Fourshee envisioned the Trigg County Quilters Guild helping with costumes. Such help will be solicited as Fourshee and other members of Trigg on Stage meet with local civic groups about the production.

The dates for the remaining workshops are as follows:

• Costume and Makeup — Feb 22. at 3:30 p.m. and Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m.

• Set Design and Construction — Feb. 28 at 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

• Acting — March 13 at 3:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

• Music — March 21 at 3:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

“Seussical the Musical” will be presented in the Little Theatre on June 2, 3, 4, 9 and 10. More information and updates can be found at JMAM’s Web site at www.jmam.org.
