Fawna Whaley, of Clarksville, Ind., was camping on Goat Island with aunt and uncle, Michelle and David Childers, and their three children, when she decided to go swimming at about 10 p.m.
Vinson said that according to Whaley’s family, she was a proficient swimmer. However, the darkness might have been a factor in her drowning, according to Vinson, who added that the coroner’s office will not be conducting any further investigation.
“I am awaiting some laboratory work to come back before we make an official ruling on the cause of the drowning,” Vinson said.
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, Trigg County Rescue Squad and other local agencies assisted with finding the teen’s body.
