The Janice Mason Art Museum announced last week the planned presentation of the inaugural exhibit, a selection from 60 years of work by Flip Schrameijer, now set to open August 19. The show, which originated in Holland, depicts portraits and scenes from the coastal regions of The Netherlands.
“It’s the price we have to pay to be safe,” said Johan Westenburg of the delay. Westenberg and Machteld Schrameijer, the artist’s daughter, are two Trigg County residents who have been instrumental in bringing the exhibit to Cadiz.
"Johan and Machteld are wonderful assets to our artistic community. We certainly appreciate their willingness to bring this exhibit to Cadiz," remarked exhibit chair Phara Bourque. "It is no small endeavor to bring this exhibit to the United States. It is an expensive venture that JMAM could not have afforded on our own."
The venture has only grown most costly with the delay in customs.
Westenburg explained that the crate containing the Cadiz-bound art was pegged for a full strip-search because of its origins in the Netherlands, a country going through terrorism-related strife of its own.
