ur fine readers in Trigg County. I have been with The Cadiz Record in other capacities since August. Some of you out there that go to Murray State Games will probably recognize me from the sides lines where I have covered college sports for 19 years now.

I thank the newspaper for the chance to bring the folks of Trigg County my insights on Trigg County sports and occasionally the college games too. I call this column About Press Row because in high school sports there is no such thing - unless you go to Marshall County’s Hoop Fest where Athletic Director Steve Wood turns a stage into Grand Central Station for basketball.

Now some people out there will discover I’m a REAL sports junky - just ask my wife of nearly four years. I knew she’d stick with me when after two weeks dating she made the 5 a.m. drive to Eastern Kentucky University with me and walked the side lines with as well (Side Note: EKU has no elevator to it’s press box so we only went up to it once).

I also talked her into taking up sports photography with me and got her a camera and all. Then again it was either that or be a sports widow from August – March. She is a great sports fan and even agreed to going to a Braves Game during our honeymoon in Atlanta where we saw a historic game where Randy Johnson pitched a perfect game against the Braves and was still throwing 92 MPH heat in the bottom of the 9th.

Now back to work. My first night out covering the Wildcats boys varsity would be a memorable one. It was last week at Calloway County. Knowing very little about this team and their season to date, (thank you Monty for the tips on the team) I saw what I’ll deem as a great effort by the wildcats being down by as much as 14 to Calloway in the first half and then lighting up the 3 point line in the 3rd quarter to over take the defending First Region Champions was a great sight. I really hoped I could be their good luck charm to beat this team I hear about at home in Murray.

“Mookie” Burris and Alexander showed me a scoring touch that I hope carries on through the rest of the season. I even heard Calloway Girls Coach Scott Sivills telling the Calloway boys coach and Radio Guy Will Aubrey how great Burris’s three pointers are from the wing. Calloway’s Coach on his Post Game radio show spoke very highly of the teams effort and that says a lot for a team who’s record does not tell the story of this season as a whole.
