The Rev. Ahart passed away after a battle with leukemia at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at his residence in Cadiz. He was born Monday, January 25, 1926 in Golden Pond to William and Myrtle Bratton Ahart.
He was a retired minister serving churches in Trigg, Lyon, Calloway, Hickman, Livington and Graves counties. He was a member of Cadiz Baptist Church. He was also a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Woodmen of the World.
He was preceded in death by son Johnnie Steven Ahart, brothers Maylon Ahart and Hubert Ahart, and sisters Edna Vinson, Bessie Womack, Dorothy Fennell and Mavalene Ahart.
Survivors include wife of 63 years Gladys Murl Noel Ahart of Cadiz; daughters and sons-in-law Lavana and Larry Underhill of Cadiz and Beverly and David Underhill of Cadiz; brother Conley Ahart of Peoria, Ill.; grandchildren John Potter, Jeremy Cunningham, Selenia Detweiler, Steven Underhill, Chase Underhill, Shannon Thomas; and great grandchildren Makenna Underhill, Elijah Underhill, Jaiden Northington, Isabella Detweiler, Riley Underhill, Landyn Underhill, Jenna Potter, Jessie Potter, Jordan Potter, Lexi Dorsey and Kierslyn Thomas.
Pallbearers were Steven Underhill, Chase Underhill, Mike Detweiler, Jeremy Cunningham, John Potter and Jim Ahart. Honorary pallbearers were Jesse Rogers, Tommy Wilhite, the Rev. Bob Herring, the Rev. Mike Rust and pastors from the Little River Baptist Association.
Music at the service was provided by Sheila Lancaster, vocalist and instrumentalist.
