Revs. Jack Larwa and Terry Lee McNichols officiated at the services. Burial followed in East End Cemetery in Cadiz.
Mr. Sills died on Friday, February 3, 2006, at 3:05 p.m., at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Bowling Green of natural causes.
Mr. Sills was born on April 28, 1914, in Trigg County. He was the son of the late Andrew Marvin, Sr., and Verna Wimberly Sills.
Mr. Sills was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in WW II; member of Linton United Methodist Church, where he served on the Building Committee; was self employed, owner of John W. Sills Construction; employed with TVA for 12 years in heavy construction; member of Linton Chapter No. 149 Order of Eastern Star, where he served as Past Patron and Deputy Grand Patron of District 17; member of Linton Masonic Lodge No. 783, where he served as Lodge’s Past Master, Secretary, and Past Deputy Grand Master of District No. 7; and was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Daphne Tucker Sills in November 1990; and two brothers, Andrew Marvin Sills, Jr., and Bruce Sills.
Survivors include his daughter and her fiancé, Donna S. Mize and Dale Bush, both of Bowling Green; Godchild, Lorrie Ritchie Young of Vine Grove; brother, Thomas R. “Ted” Sills of Dover, Tenn.; two uncles and aunts, Sam “F.I.” and Eleanor Sills Brandon, and M.C. and Louise Cothran; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Serving as pallbearers were William Blane “Bill” Nunn, Joseph Ritchie, Eddie Pleasant, Terry Young, Jim Sills, and John King Sills.
Honorary pallbearers were Donnie Boyd, Murl Bush, Jim Myers, Steven Douglas, Teddy McNichols, and J. Will Wimberly.
Martha Fortner, organist, provided the music.
