The new Trigg County Justice Center will be open for business on Sept. 9, a full month later than recent projections, according to Codell Construction Project Manager David Welker.

The state’s Administrative Office of the Courts will start moving the Trigg County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office in to the new justice center later this month, Welker said. Trigg County Circuit Court Clerk Pam Perry said the move would probably take about a week, from Aug. 24–28.

The grand opening for the new justice center will likely 30–45 days after the date of completion in order to work out the kinks in the various security devices all throughout the building, added Welker. “It’s definitely coming along,” he said.

Trigg County Circuit Judge C.A. “Woody” Woodall had originally planned to have the first motion rule day in the new justice center on Monday, Aug. 10, but the building won’t be ready by then, so the Monday, Aug. 10, motion rule day was held at the Renaissance Center, Perry said.

People will continue to see crews working on the building prior to Aug. 24, according to Welker.

Trigg County Clerk Wanda Thomas said she hopes to use the new circuit courtroom in the justice center to announce the results of the special election on alcohol, to be held on Tuesday, Sept. 29, although she isn’t sure yet. She added that traditionally, election results have been announced in the circuit courtroom.

At the last meeting of the county’s Project Development Board in July, the board chose three tentative dates for a ribbon cutting and open house for the new justice center. The dates of Friday, Sept. 25, Friday, Oct. 16, and Friday, Oct. 23 have been submitted to Chief Justice John Minton to see if any of those dates will fit into his schedule.

The status of the justice center will be further discussed when the project development board meets at noon Friday, Aug. 21, in the Trigg County Courthouse basement.
