The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife stocked the pond with a few hundred fish and four age groups of children lined up around the banks. The groups were divided into three to five, six to eight, nine to 11 and 12 to 15.
As children caught fish, they brought them to stations where the fish were measured so that prizes could later be given to those who caught the longest, shortest and most fish.
Twelve bicycles were donated by Cadiz Hardware for the three winners in the four age groups.
A volunteer at the measuring table for the three to five-year-olds, Diane Crony-Turner, said that most of the younger children wanted to throw their fish back in the pond after they were measured.
