Going into Saturday night’s game at Graves County, Jonathan King was closing in quickly on his 1,000 career point as a Trigg County Wildcat. After Friday night’s win over Caldwell County the Wildcats regrouped and prepared to take on a 16-9 Graves County Squad that had a size, height and depth advantage over the visiting Wildcats.

The Wildcats would be led in scoring on the night by Shelton “Mookie” Burris with 27 points, of which 18 were scored on 3 pointers. Jonathan King would put up 16 points to become the 20th member of the school’s 1,000 point club. Dustin White added 6 points off the bench.

Trigg County opened the game winning the tip and scoring first on a Zeke Wright 3 point play with a basket and a free throw. Burris would come out on fire in the first quarter hitting four “3”s keeping the Wildcats soaring with the speedy Eagles in the 1st quarter. The Wildcats would end the first quarter only down by two 20-18.

The 2nd quarter began with the continued running pace and the Wildcats tied the game back up at the 6:30 mark on a basket by White. By 5:25 on the clock Burris put the Wildcats up 25-22 on basket and a free throw. King got his first points of the game at the 4:30 mark in the 2nd quarter leaving him just 7 points away from the 1,000 point plateau.

Graves County would fight backing retaking the lead 31-29 with 2:45 to go in the quarter. The lead would change two more times by the 2:00 mark when Coach Mike Wright would call a timeout to slow down the momentum flowing with the Eagles. After the time out a mad scramble up and down the court would result in sloppy play and a 4-point run by Graves County to end the half up 37-33 on the undersized Wildcat squad.

The 3rd quarter started with the Eagles flying high on a 8 point run to start the quarter throwing the Wildcats in to a tailspin and Coach Wright calling a timeout at 6:18 on the clock to regroup the Wildcats and clear the cob webs from the quick eagle assault to start the 3rd quarter.
