The Cadiz Kiwanis Club is sponsoring the BUGs (Bringing Up Grades) program at Trigg County Intermediate School.

Although Kiwanis clubs have sponsored this program at various schools across the country, this is the first year for BUGs in Trigg County, said Kiwanis President Karen Randels. For now, they are only working for fifth grade students, but the club hopes to expand it next year. Intermediate Principal Brian Futrell said that the club has given them pencils, stickers, buttons, posters and certificates through the program.

“Anything to motivate them,” he said.

“(BUGs) is a program designed to provide recognition to students who raise their grades to an acceptable range, and maintain or continue to raise them from one grading period to the next,” says one Kiwanis Web site, kiwanisduluth.com.
