PRINCETON – A year ago, Trigg County pulled off a late-season upset against Caldwell County. The Lady Wildcats were unable to repeat that feat Friday in a 70-49 loss in a game played at Princeton’s historic Butler Gym.

Brooke Kearney hit a three-pointer to put Trigg on the board with a 3-2 lead, but it turned out to be Trigg’s only lead of the night. Caldwell scored the next 13 points and outscored the Lady ‘Cats 21-11 in the second quarter.

Trigg put forth a solid effort in the second half but never got closer than 17 points.

Ashley Matlock was the only Lady ‘Cat to score in double figures. She led all players with 22 points.

Trigg returned to action Saturday in Bardwell in a game against Carlisle County that was rescheduled from Jan. 30 due to weather. The Lady ‘Cats won 52-41, matching the gap of a 45-34 victory agains the Lady Comets on Dec. 12 in Cadiz.

Carlisle held a five-point lead after the first quarter and led 27-24 at halftime, but Trigg pitched a shutout in the third quarter and controlled the rest of the contest.

Matlock and Khadijah Grubbs each scored 16 points to lead the Lady ‘Cats.

Trigg hosted Todd County Central on Tuesday (results unavailable at press time). Senior Night festivities were originally scheduled to be held prior to the game but were moved to Friday, when the Lady ‘Cats host Hopkinsville in the regular season finale.

Trigg plays in the semifinal round of the 5th District Tournament at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday against Lyon County (see page B3 for complete tournament information).
