Trigg County slipped past Mayfield in a final preseason scrimmage last Tuesday evening, defeating the Lady Cardinals 54-52. The Trigg County girls jumped out to a 17-5 run in the first quarter, but

then allowed Mayfield to get back in the game in the second quarter.

“We went into half time with the game tied,” Trigg County Coach Amy Breckel confided. “The girls were able to handle the pressure defense that we saw from Mayfield and we were able to break their full court press. This is something we have really been working on in practice so to actually execute what they have learned was a great thing for the coaching staff to see. Breaking the press and keeping our turnovers down have plagued our team in the past and it has really been a focus of ours in practice this season. We still had too many unforced turnovers but they are getting better."

More than one player stepped up and contributed for the Trigg County team during the preseason matchup.

“Ashleigh Matlock and Janada Acree had a good game for us and Trinity Wortham and Brooke Kearney were able to make shots at crucial times to keep us in the ball game,” Breckel added.

“We will continue focusing on our endurance and our execution of our plays this week in practice as we get ready to open up."

Trigg County opened the regular-season this Tuesday versus Fulton City. The Trigg County-Fulton City game ended too late to make this edition.
