While 32-point losses usually leave coaches upset, that couldn’t be said for Amy Breckel.

After watching her Lady Wildcats lose 67-35 to Lyon County Jan. 14, the first-year head coach was pleased with the team’s performance.

"We did some good things tonight," she said. "We wanted to take away their 3-point shot, and we did. They just have too many girls who can shoot. You can’t stop just one, because they have four more who can shoot."

Lyon County missed eight of their nine shots from behind the arc, but used a lethal transition game to deal the Lady Wildcats their sixth straight district loss.

The Lady Lyons were deadly from the inside, outscoring Trigg 40-20 in the paint.

Four straight points by Felicia Crenshaw to start the game staked the Lady Wildcats to a 4-2 lead, but Lyon County hit four of their last five shots to end the first quarter on a 10-2 run to lead 16-8 after the first eight minutes.

Three different Lady Lyons scored during a 7-0 run to start the second quarter that built the visitor’s lead to 23-8 with 5:51 left.

Two buckets by Crenshaw fueled a brief 7-2 run by the Lady Wildcats that saw them draw to within ten points at 25-15 with 3:57 left in the half.

Lyon stemmed the tide with an 8-2 run to end the first half and take a 33-17 into intermission.

The Lady Lyons were able to put the game away at the start of the third quarter when Trigg went 4:12 without a field goal.

Lyon scored 12 straight points to start the quarter and build a 45-17 lead, thanks to seven Lady Wildcat turnovers on their first eight possessions. Trigg would get no closer the rest of the game.

The Lady Wildcats found Lyon’s defense tough to navigate most of the night, never reaching double figures in any of the four quarters.

"We really don’t match up well against them because they play aggressive defense and did a good job on the boards against us," Breckel said.

Lyon outrebounded Trigg 39-22 and had 12 second chance points.

Trigg shot just 33-percent from the field – including an equal 33-percent in each half. Lyon County shot 47-percent.

Crenshaw was the lone Lady Wildcat in double figures with 20 points. Laquisha Boyd added eight points and nine rebounds.

"Felicia played one of her best games of the year. That’s the point guard we need to show up every night," Breckel said. "Laquisha and Molly (Walters) also did a good job of taking it to the basket."

Olivia Akridge was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field to lead Lyon County with 14 points and four assists.

Hayley Parrent came off the bench to add 12 points for the Lady Lyons, who improved to 10-4 overall and 6-0 in the district. Lyon has now won four straight games over the Lady Wildcats.
