Trigg County had a pair of Lady Wildcats place in the top eight at the Class A State Track and Field Championships June 3-4 in Lexington.

Laquisha Boyd finished eighth in the shot put, with a distance of 30-feet, 2-inches, which was three inches farther than her throw at the Region I Meet the previous week.

Molly McGraw of Newport Central Catholic won the event with a toss of 33-feet, 4-inches.

Melanie Want finished eighth in the long jump with a distance of 14-feet, 11-inches.

The eighth grader squeaked into the finals by qualifying on her final attempt after two previous scratches.

Mayfield’s Tamika Hall won the event with a jump of 16-feet, 8-inches.

The 400-meter relay team of Jasmine Kale, Annie Woods, Lanika Mayes, and Laquisha Boyd finished 13th in their preliminary heat with a time of 55.82 seconds.

Trigg’s 800-meter relay team was disqualified in the preliminary round for a baton exchange outside of the zone on the first leg.

Want was injured during the relay and was unable to compete in the 400 relay.

Trigg’s total of two points tied them for 32nd in the 39-team state meet.
