A pair of local golfers are midway through the American Junior Golf Association Tour, having already played tournaments in four different states.

Tyler Mitchell, who will be a freshman at Trigg County High School this fall, finished tied for 41st out of 66 golfers at the Nike Junior Golf Tour at Quad Cities June 7-10 in Long Grove, Iowa.

Mitchell finished with a 16-over-par 232 in three rounds at the par-72 Glynn’s Creek Golf Course. His best round came on the second day when he shot a pair of 37s to finish with a 2-over 74. His round included five birdies.

Mitchell finished 60th at the Nike Junior event June 1-4 at the Colonial Country Club in Jackson, Mississippi. He shot a 248, which was 35 strokes behind the winner. His best round came on the first day when he shot an 8-over 80.

In his first event on the tour April 16-18, Mitchell tied for 16th place at the Ashworth Junior Tournament in Hot Springs, Ark. He fired consecutive 77s on the par-72 course.

Tyler’s older brother Curtis, who will be a junior in the fall, finished tied for 54th with an 83 on the first day and an 84 on the second day.

Curtis attempted to qualify for the Ping Indy Junior Qualifier June 7 at the Bridgewater Club in Carmel, Ind. He shot an 84 on the par-72 course, including a 41 on the back nine but missed qualifying for the tournament by six shots.

The Mitchells are just two of several local golfers playing in summer golf tours. A couple of TCHS golfers took part in Pepsi Junior Tour events in the area last week, but their results had not been posted on the tour’s web site as of Monday.
