Local seats on November ballot

Trigg County Republican Party Chairman J.D. Howell announced that the GOP Executive Committee selected Roger Knight as its candidate for County Jailer in the November General Election. Knight added that he agreed to serve as Judge/Executive Stan Humphries selection for interim jailer until the election.

Democratic Party Chairman H.B. Quinn did not return a phone call from The Cadiz Record Monday morning before the news deadline to announce his party’s candidate. County Clerk Wanda Thomas said that it was her understanding that Quinn would have the Democratic candidate come to her office to complete paperwork around 3:30 on August 14, prior to the filing deadline. She said she did not know who the candidate would be.

Thomas said that a city council seat, vacated when Donna McNichols’ neighborhood was de-annexed, had only one candidate qualify as of Monday morning, McNichols. The city council member moved to an address within current city limits was named as her own successor by the council, and plans to defend her seat in the general election. Thomas said that two other possible candidates collected paperwork to file to run for the seat, but have not returned the forms yet. She said she would not release their names unless they returned the paperwork to her office.
