It isn’t too difficult for most students to find work in Trigg County. They can find employment in fast-food restaurants, grocery stores, Lake Barkley Lodge and other local companies.
One business in particular, McDonald’s, employs 13 students. McDonald’s is a very popular place for high school and college-aged students to work. This is partly because they are well-known for hiring students.
“I feel good about hiring students,” said Kathy Croney, the store manager at the Cadiz McDonald’s. “Most of the time they just want to work part-time and that’s all we usually need. That makes easier when it comes to putting them in the schedule because we can just put them where we need them, and everyone is happy.
“McDonald’s is a good place for teenagers to start out at because it gives good ‘first-job experience’. Here they can learn how to deal with customers and co-workers and all of the different personalities out there. It can help boost their confidence and give them good work habits that they can use when they go to different jobs.”
Sixteen-year old McDonald’s employee Jeremy Brown agrees, “I work at McDonald’s to build up social skills. I like talking to people. I mean, the check’s not bad, but that’s honestly not the only reason I work there. It gives me something to do on the weekends and keeps me out of trouble.”
