Many different county residents have been donating money for fireworks for the annual Independence Day fireworks show on Lake Barkley, although it will be held on July 3 rather than July 4, according to Lake Barkley State Resort Park Administrator John Jordan.

In the past, the Lake Barkley State Park has contributed $7,500 for the fireworks show, but due to the economy and budget cuts it was not able to do that this year, so Friends of Lake Barkley have been soliciting private donations, Jordan said.

About $4,800, which have been coming in for the past week or two, have been donated so far, although not everyone who has said they will contribute donations has yet done so, said Jordan. “Everyone has been very helpful and charitable in these economic conditions,” he said.

Local resident Joe Anderson said that if no one else had many any donations, “I’d have paid for them myself.”
