Funeral services for Louise Powell, 85, of Hopkinsville, were conducted on Monday, March 20, 2006, at 1 p.m., at Lamb Funeral Home in Hopkinsville.

Rev. Joe Carter officiated at the services. Burial followed in New Ebenezer Cemetery.

Mrs. Powell died on Friday, March 17, 2006, at 7 p.m., at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., following a brief illness.

Mrs. Powell was born on September 1, 1920, in Todd County. She was the daughter of the late Luther Henry and Myrtie Lee Stokes Martin.

Mrs. Powell was a seamstress at International Shoe Company for 30 years, and was a member of the New Ebenezer Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Barney Broughton Powell in1988.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Delwood Powell and Carland Powell, both of Christian County; three daughters and sons-in-law, Avis and Oscar Majors of Christian County, Kathy and James Carr of Hopkinsville, and Vickie and Jim Coder of Trigg County; a brother, Dalton Ray Martin of Sardis, Miss., 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
