A fight interrupted proceedings in Trigg County District Court last Tuesday.

According to Trigg County Sheriff Randy Clark, 25-year-old Miles A. Caughey III, of 65 Monroe Street, Cadiz appeared before Judge Jamus Redd with his live-in girlfriend Kesha Dawn Oliver, 20, of the same address for the companion offenses of Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.

“They had been transported from the Christian County Jail for arraignment with some other prisoners by jail personnel,” said Clark. “My understanding is that he became agitated for the fact that the court released her from custody because she had no prior serious criminal acts on her record. His prior acts required detention or a higher bond. Mr. Caughey became agitated at his girlfriend in front of the bench and struck her in the face, knocking her to the floor. He proceeded to jump on top of her and attempted to choke her.”

Clark said that jail personnel, Bailiff Bob Vidmar and a pre-trial officer engaged the suspect to end his alleged assault on the female victim.
