Larry Furgerson, age 74, died June 27 in his room at the Goodnite Motel on the corner of Nunn Boulevard and Main Street.

Trigg County Coroner John Vinson said he died at 8 a.m. of natural causes, specifically a heart attack.

“There weren’t adverse circumstances whatsoever,” he said.

Furgerson’s youngest daughter, Glenda Boyce, came down from Illinois last Wednesday to clean out his room. She said Furgerson grew up in Trigg County and that he loved to hunt, fish and travel.

The motel’s owner, Bob Rose, said Furgerson loved staying there.

“I guess that’s because we treated him like home folks,” he said.

Rose said that, although the Goodnite Motel sometimes gets some unsavory tenants, whom he called “bad eggs,” they try to be “one happy family” there.

Michelle Barlow, the hotel’s manager, said as her eyes began to water that she was going to miss Furgerson very much. She said he had been living in the motel off and on for about five years. The last time he had moved back in was about a year and a half ago, when he came back from Mississippi, where he had been living with one of his daughters. He told the place was home to him.
