Officers of the Kentucky State Police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 68 one-half mile west of South Road on February 19 that left a Crofton man hospitalized.

A KSP news release identified the injured driver as 68-year-old Elbert Moore, as living in Cadiz, though with a Crofton address as the driver of a 2004 Lincoln. The report said that Moore stated that glare from the Sun caused a brief loss of vision and he ran off the right side of the road. Moore said that he overcorrected to the left and struck a semi in the oncoming lane.

According to the report, Moore attempted to brake and steer to avoid the tractor trailer, though the impact forced him off the roadway and down an embankment.

The report states both Moore and the driver of the truck, Byron A. Reid, 31, of Hopkinsville wore seatbelts. Though the report listed Moore as a fatality, it goes on describe his injuries as minor, though his vehicle was “completely destroyed.” The report described Reid as uninjured.

The Trigg County EMS Service, Rescue Squad and Sheriff’s Department assisted the KSP at the scene.
