Principal James Mangels said that 21 staff members participated in the district’s “Success Journeys” before the start of school, visiting more than 90 students. He also said that the turnout for the school’s open house had been quite good, with 339 parents signing in at the door. Parent representative Sheri Lancaster said that she thought the event had gone well and that she thought it helped her child to not be as nervous about starting a new year as in the past.
Mangels presented a quotation to the council that he had shown them in the past that was meant to remind them teachers were the decisive element in a student’s educational experience. He said that students were beginning to see the seriousness of their continued assessment tests because of those who had to take remedial lessons after lower-than-expected scores. He said the school was well on its way to meeting No Child Left Behind targets if they continued to stress the two biggest areas that the assessment measures.
