Funeral services for Margie Sparks, age 85, of Spruce Pine, North Carolina, were conducted on Saturday, August 19, 2006, at the Grindstaff Memorial Chapel of the Webb Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Berry Chapel Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Sparks died on Wednesday, August 16, 2006, at Spruce Pine Community Hospital.

Mrs. Sparks was born on July 9, 1921, in Spruce Pine, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Finn and Hettie Fisher Buchanan.

Mrs. Sparks retired form Spruce Pine Mica, where she worked as a press operator for many years, and was a member of Berry Chapel Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Pender Sparks in 1990; a sister, Hazel Harrison; and a brother, Charlie Buchanan.

Survivors include a son, Paul Scott Sparks of Spruce Pine, N.C.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Clifford Goble of Gastonia, N.C., and Ruby and Bill Raxter of Warren, Mich.; a brother, Lewis “Buck” Buchanan of Cadiz; and several nieces and nephews.
