Memorial services for Martha Jean Stagner Bowen, 75, of Lafayette, La., formerly of Cadiz, were conducted at 4 p.m., on Saturday, February 23, 2008, at Riverside Church of Christ in Lafayette. David Funeral Home was in charge of all the arrangements.

Mrs. Bowen died on Friday, February 15, 2008, at 7:22 p.m., at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center.

Mrs. Bowen was born on May 15, 1932, in Murray. She was the daughter of the late B.J. and Wilma Obera Edwards Stagner.

Mrs. Bowen taught First and Third grade and later began the Gifted Education Program for Trigg County Schools, introducing them to Odyssey of the Mind.

Survivors include her husband, Shelton Bowen; daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Karen Bowen and Russell Roden of Lafayette, La.; son and daughter-in-law, John Shelton and Kim Bowen of Richardson, Texas; grandsons, Thomas Shelton Bowen and Alexander Steven Bowen, both of Richardson, Texas, and John Clifton Roden of Lafayette; and granddaughter, Hallie Elizabeth Roden of Lafayette.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America or the Blind Ministry at Riverside Church of Cadiz.
