PADUCAH — The Trigg County Lady Cats made themselves right at home on the road last Tuesday night in a game versus St. Mary. Ashley Matlock scored a game-high 21 points to lead visiting Trigg County to a 56-52 win.

Brooke Kearney added 12 points – on four three-point field goals – as Trigg County improved to 7-13.

Long range shooting played a key role for Trigg County. Trinity Wortham also hit a three-pointer for the Lady Cats.

St. Mary’s pushed Trigg County throughout the regular-season girls’ high school basketball matchup. The Lady Cats clung to a 53-52 lead late before finishing the contest on a 3-0 run.

Matlock drained a free throw to help preserve the win for the Lady Cats. Janada Acree picked off an inbounds pass and scored at the buzzer to set the final score.

“We were able to accomplish two goals at St. Mary,” said Trigg County Coach Amy Breckel. ”We were able to earn our seventh win for the season and our first win on the road. We also were able to finish out a close game against a very capable opponent. Ashley Matlock and Brooke Kearney definitely led the team in our success. Ashley was just determined to put some points on the board and take the ball to the rim. Brooke was able to take advantage of every opportunity they gave her to score behind the arc which she has been able to do consistently for us all year long. Being able to win these types of close games will go along way in helping us to find success in the district tournament.”
