Midcat baseball teams each win two in first week

Trigg County Middle School opened its 11-week junior varsity and varsity baseball seasons last week, and both teams won two of their first three games.

Sunday, the Midcats hosted Hopkinsville and split with the Tigers. The JV team opened with a 10-2 loss. Trigg knocked four hits – two by Trey Lancaster (including a double) and one each by Reid Kuberski and Hunter Fowler.

In the varsity game, the Midcats came from behind to top Hoptown 10-9. Kullen Garner knocked in three runs and had the game-winning hit. Corbin Estes was the winning pitcher and had a double and a single at the plate. Tyler Estes matched Corbin’s offensive stats, Austin Calhoun had a pair of singles, and Jacob Green and Ben Wigand each had hits.

Saturday, Trigg swept New Providence. Brandon Wilson was the winning pitcher in an 8-6 JV victory, and Hunter Allen and Caleb McIntosh each had hits. In the varsity game, the Midcats smacked 11 hits in a 15-4 blowout. Wigand was the winning pitcher and led Trigg at the plate with three singles and three RBIs. Green had a double and two runs knocked in, and Jayven Jones finished with a double and a single. Garner had a double, and Ean Sholar, Tyler Estes, Austin Calhoun, Tyler Allen and Justin Calhoun each had a single.

Last Monday, the JV team dominated University Heights 11-2. Tyler Allen was the winning pitcher and had a single at the plate, as did Lancaster, Chris Hendricks, Hunter Allen. Wilson had a double and two RBIs, and Fowler had two singles.

Trigg played the Blazers close in the varsity game but fell 9-8. Jones smacked a triple and a single, Sholar had a single and two RBIs, and Green, Corbin Estes. Tyler Estes, Tyler Allen and Austin Calhoun each had singles.

Monday, April 19 vs. Northeast, 5:30 and 7 p.m.;

Thursday, April 22 vs. Union, 5:30 and 7 p.m.;

Saturday, April 24 @ Livingston Central, 1 and 3 p.m.;

Saturday, May 8 @ Union, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.;

Friday, May 14 @ Christian County, 5:30 and 7 p.m.

A tournament is tentatively scheduled for April 29-May 1.
