Local officials and a few members of the public gathered on the deck of Lake Barkley State Resort Park’s dining room for an open house of the newly renovated rooms last Thursday.

Park Manager John Rittenhouse approached a podium overlooking the swimming pool and thanked everyone for coming to the informal ceremony. He introduced State Parks Commissioner J. T. Miller.

“He loves camping as much as the lodge and the beach as much as the golf course,” Rittenhouse said.

Miller said that Kentucky has had one of the best state park systems in the country, but that the resorts hadn’t been upgraded as quickly as they should have been.

“We say we have the best state park system in the nation, but that rang hollow until recently,” he said.
