Zering contends that, because the annexations pertaining to his neighborhood have been declared void or voidable, the city has been taxing him unfairly.
City Attorney Jamus Redd said that the City of Cadiz does not, in fact, tax insurance premiums, as it is not allowed to under the City Code.
Rather, Redd said, insurance companies that sell premiums are assessed a license fee for doing business in the county. Though Zering’s, like many other Cadiz residents’, insurance bill does list a municipal tax as a fee, it is not assessed by the city. It is, however, how insurance companies recoup their licensing fee, Redd said.
