The unemployment rate for Trigg County stayed at roughly 15.3 percent from February to March of this year, and as of March, Trigg still had the state’s seventh highest unemployment rate, according to unemployment statistics released last Tuesday by the Kentucky Education and Workforce Cabinet.

The recently released statistics indicate that of the 6,575-person strong workforce in Trigg County, 5,569 were employed while 1,006 were unemployed.

During that same time period, the national unemployment rate was 9 percent, and the state’s average unemployment rate went from 9.3 percent in February to 9.8 percent in March, Kim Brannock of the Workforce Development Cabinet said in a press release.

The counties with lowest unemployment rates in March were Fayette County at 7.4 percent, Woodford County at 7.7 percent, McCracken and Oldham Counties at 8.1 percent, Calloway County at 8.2 percent, Boyd County at 8.3 percent and Pike County at 8.5 percent.

Menifee County had the state’s highest unemployment rate at 18.1 percent, followed by Bath County at 17.7 percent, Jackson County at 16.8 percent, Magoffin County at 16.5 percent, Powell County at 15.6 percent and Cumberland County at 15.4 percent.

Civilian workforce statistics include non-military workers as well as unemployed residents who are actively seeking work, but don’t include unemployed residents who haven’t sought employment within the past four weeks, Brannock said.

The statistics that were released last Tuesday are not seasonally adjusted to allow for comparisons between national, state and county figures, added Brannock.
