As part of National Make a Difference Day, Pennyrile Allied Community Services and its Retired and Senior Volunteer Program hosted a disaster awareness fair Thursday, Oct. 27.

“With everything happening in the country … bomb threats and all that” we wanted to help people “be aware of what we have here to protect us,” said Lorna Pavon, director of RSVP.

Accordingly, representatives from Helping Hands, the U.S. Forestry Service, Atmos Energy, the Housing Authority, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Trigg County Red Cross, the Trigg County School System and Pennyrile Electric, among others, were stationed at Renaissance Square Thursday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. to describe their emergency plans or offer advice on what to do in an emergency.

Pennyrile Electric representative Mike Bowers kicked things off with an electric performance of the dangers of downed power lines to an audience of about 30, most of whom had left their booths for the demonstration.
