Scott Jolly, Tom Scepter, and WKDZ helped run the event but James Smith of Lakeland Kawasaki organized the event. For the past eight years Smith has held street bike poker runs that consisted of a certain route before you reach the end.
“It is kind of like seven card stud poker,” said Smith, aboard a pontoon boat with Kawasaki banners running across it.
On Saturday, there was no certain route you had to take, only certain destinations. Participants had to go to Sandy Beach, Prizer Point, and Devil’s Elbow in any order and each destination had staff in the water waiting the arrival of participants to hand them envelops with two cards in them. At each stop, participants received two cards in an envelope, which they could not open until they returned to the marina, where they got their seventh and final card. From 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Smith and others went through everyone’s cards to find who had the best hand.
