The primary school’s site-based decision-making council approved master schedules and hired several new employees on July 25.

Principal Ann Taylor said she had gone to great lengths to work out the schedules with the intermediate and middle schools. This is because the three schools share several exploratory teachers. The council members all said they were pleased with the schedule. The teacher representatives were particularly happy about the common planning periods that Taylor had scheduled. Taylor told the Cadiz Record the common planning time was very helpful to teachers because it allows them to discuss many things together, including solutions to discipline problems and teaching methods. Kindergarten teachers will be able to meet together on Mondays, first grade teachers have Tuesdays and second grade teachers have Wednesdays.

The council also discussed the transition policy. This policy has to do with how teachers will help their students make the transition from second grade to third, which is now in the intermediate school. Some in the council suggested having third grade teachers coming to classes and talking to second graders about what they can expect the next year. Teacher representative Elaine Wimberly said she usually brings her second grade class to observe a third grade class. Taylor told the council to e-mail her any further suggestions. A policy will soon be written and probably approved at the next meeting.
