The Trigg County Primary School Title I Committee met last week to discuss its plans for the upcoming Oct. 18 Math Night.

First grade teacher Kim Craven, a member of the committee, said she thought it would be a good idea to start in the library at 5:30 p.m. and split the children into smaller groups so that they could work in the classrooms. She said this worked well the last time. Another member, Title I staff member Suzanne Ledford, agreed, saying it got a visible response.

You can always tell it’s a hit if they talk about it afterward,” she said.

Cravens said that Brooke Stinson, another committee member and recently nationally certified teacher, would speak to parents in the library about the program.

The committee is also planning a reading night for Nov. 15, and the time will be set at a later time, Cravens said. She said they might get a speaker for that night as well, and possibly have a combined reading and math night some other night.

Title I funding comes from the federal government. The amount of funding a district gets depends on the area’s poverty level, among a few other factors. Cravens said the money allows them to hire additional staff to help with instruction in classrooms.
