Museum board member Paul Fourshee said that the elementary school (before it was split into two schools) had an art show and contest for years before the museum was formed in 1998. He said that he considered the exposure to art that the exhibit provides “an investment in the future.”
“When the museum was started, we had the objective of, ‘Let’s try to get every elementary child in here once a year.’” Fourshee said. “Now a lot of them are in here twice a year or more.”
