When Trigg County High School students return to classrooms this fall, they will be welcomed by a new principal. The Trigg County High School site-based council voted last Wednesday to hire Chad Pruitt to fill the spot vacated by Sharon Knight at the end of the current school year.

Pruitt has been employed for the last two years as the assistant principal at Harrison County High School in Cynthiana. During his time there, he worked as athletic director, served on several site-based councils and was responsible for school discipline. According to a press release from TCHS, Pruitt comes to Trigg County “highly recommended by his colleagues and supervisors.”

When the meeting began last Wednesday, the council immediately went into closed session to have a final discussion about the applicants. When the meeting went back into open session, the council voted unanimously to hire Pruitt.

After the meeting was adjourned, council chair Becky Ginn, an English teacher at TCHS, called Pruitt to give him the news.

Pruitt told The Cadiz Record he was both excited and relieved when Ginn told him the council had chosen him.

“I had anticipated it and prayed about it for some time,” he said.

Pruitt said he had applied for the position in late April and had been interviewed twice, including once with the site-based council and once with Tim McGinnis, the superintendent for Trigg County. Pruitt said he had only applied at Marshall and Trigg counties, and that Trigg was his preference.
