To the Editor:

I read Mr. Bryan’s article “Let’s cut through the misinformation on ‘Obamacare’” July 25, 2012 Cadiz Record). We should clear up first the idea that it is a healthcare bill. It is a tax bill, not a healthcare bill. Said so by the Supreme Court.

The ideological arguments listed include human right or saleable commodity. What about personal responsiblity, not government responsiblity? Long before Obamacare, private organizations such as St. Thomas Childrens Hospital have been caring for children. Doctors have donated their time and some resources to neighborhood clinics. churches and donate millions each year to the poor. When government gets involved, so does waste, fraud and abuse.

Polls of doctors indicate high cost of insurance to cover lawsuits as the major reason for high cost of healthcare.

The federal government does not have the authority to make the states establish exchanges or anything else for that matter. The Tenth amendment took care of that.

If the law requires doctors to spend 85 percent of the payments to be spent on benefits, who will be a doctor? What does a 3.8 percent tax on the sale of private property have to do with healthcare?

The people that have a “Cadillac” healthcare plan earned the money themselves to pay for that plan, and a 40 percent tax on it is outrageous.

And last, if socialized medicine is so great, why do Canadians and people from other industrialized nations come here for care?
