A recanvassing, which is less labor intensive and entails adding up the totals again, is not allowed under state law, as that law applies only to primaries and general elections, Thomas said.
Anyone wanting to start a petition to bring back prohibition must wait another three years, and for the issue to come back on the ballot, the petition must have the signatures of 25 percent of the people that voted in the previous election, just like the petition to end prohibition this year, said Thomas.
However, since the election was countywide, and since Cadiz is a class five city, individual precincts will not be able to vote themselves dry as previously reported, said Thomas.
For precincts to vote themselves dry, an alcohol election would have to be citywide instead of countywide, and that city would have to be larger than Cadiz, the county clerk said.
